Largest-ever UK Little Qualifiers at Farnham Park this weekend

Wed 13 Jun 2018

Little League baseballers from all over the country will be converging on Farnham Park this weekend – 16-17 June – for the largest UK Little League Qualifying Tournament ever to be played in the UK, with 19 teams vying for titles in five categories of play.

In three of those categories, -- Under-13/Majors, Under-15/Juniors and Under-17/Seniors -- the winners will progress to the Europe/Africa Little League Qualifiers later in the summer, with a chance to do something no British team has ever done: qualify for the Little League World Series for that age group in the United States.

The other two categories of play, with no European tournament to follow, will be Under 11/Minors and Under-11/Coach Pitch, with the latter competition being held on Sunday only.  These tournaments are run to give young players in the UK more tournament baseball experience.

All four of the purpose-built diamonds are Farnham Park will be used for the Qualifiers.  Games in the Under-17/Senior and Under-15 Junior categories will be played on diamonds with 90-foot bases and the other three categories will be played on diamonds with 60-foot bases.

The Registration and Player Eligibility tent will be open from 8.00 am on Saturday along the third base line of Field 3, and the main point of contact for the weekend will be Tournament Director Johanna Malisani (07561-812680).

Johanna said, “We are looking forward to hosting the 2018 edition of the UK Little League Qualifier at Farnham Park and building on the success of our previous tournaments!   For me personally, it is one of my favourite events, getting to see our youth programmes all together in one park at the same time, sharing in the ethos of Little League, and watching the next generation of ball players growing, developing and enjoying the game!"
