Watch fastpitch and baseball on BSUK TV in 2015
Fri 1 May 2015
Update (July 2015): You can now watch the full replays of the events we streamed by clicking the 'BSUK TV' link below.
BSUK TV, which made its debut last year with a telecast of slowpitch softball’s National Championship final, will return in 2015 with live webstreaming from the London Cup Women’s Fastpitch Tournament and the UK Little League Baseball Qualifiers.
The telecasts will present the final games from each tournament. These games will be webstreamed live but will also be available on demand after each event.
The London Cup, to be played on the weekend of 6-7 June at Farnham Park, is an international women’s fastpitch tournament being hosted by the BSF and BSUK. The tournament will feature the Danish National Team and club teams from France and Germany, pitted against the London Angels club team, winners of the 2013 European Women’s Cup, and a GB Select Team containing mostly GB Under-19 players.
The last two games of the tournament on Sunday 7 June will be televised – the third place playoff game, scheduled for 1.00 pm, and then the final, scheduled for 3.00 pm.
The aim of the tournament is to bring a high level of European fastpitch to the UK, and also to help GB national team players prepare for European and World Championships later this summer.
UK Little League Qualifiers
This will be the second year that the UK Little League Qualifiers, a tournament to select the British teams that will compete at four age levels in European Little League Championships, has been held at Farnham Park. This year, the tournament will be played over the weekend of 20-21 June.
Last year, the British teams that qualified through this event played well in Europe and two of them came close to achieving qualification for Little League Championship Finals in the United States.
Again, the final games from the tournament on Sunday 21 June, presenting the best of British youth baseball, will be webstreamed live and will then be available on demand.
BSUK is keen to make British baseball and softball available to a wider audience, and carried out a pilot project in 2014, working with Loughborough-based JP Productions, to televise the co-ed slowpitch Premier Nationals final and the final game from the Double-A National Baseball Championships a week later.
Because this was the first time that either BSUK or JP Productions had been involved in televising the sports, the games were recorded and edited for on-demand viewing rather than telecast live. The telecast of the Premier Nationals final went well and attracted a large audience when it became available during the week after the event, but the baseball telecast ran into technical issues and wasn’t broadcast.
However, the pilot served its purpose in terms of lessons learned and technical problems recognised and overcome, and this year’s fastpitch and baseball telecasts will be available both live and on-demand.
Details of how to access the broadcasts will be published later in May.
While the initial audience for these telecasts will undoubtedly come primarily from with the British baseball and softball communities, BSUK hopes that building up a programme of telecasts year on year showing all three formats of the sports will begin to increase the presence of baseball and softball in the wide UK sporting landscape.
