Herts has added an exciting new element to its baseball and softball programme, with pay-as-you-go games for both experienced and novice players.  The Herts Rec League will run on Saturdays over the summer, with mixed teams playing time-limited games.

The club has had another rush of new members this year, so the Herts Rec League project has been developed to give more game time to new players and provide a way to take part without committing to a full season.  Both baseball and softball will be available.

Players can sign up for a full summer or just for one-off games.  Each week, the teams will be different, to enhance the social aspect of the sports.  Players can play any position and learn in a relaxed environment.

Herts will bring its experienced coaches and umpires to the programme, so anyone who fancies giving baseball or softball a try will be well supported.  Because games will be limited to a maximum of two hours, players will know when they start and finish, making it much easier to plan their day!

Rec League Commissioner Cris Hiche – an international baseball player who has a key role with the Herts Falcons in the National Baseball League – said: "It's a great opportunity for anybody to have fun and learn the game.”

“Players can maybe try new positions, or improve their existing skills.  It's an opportunity for those who don't have much time or who can't play on Sundays to play some quality baseball.”

The club hopes the programme will be a starting point for new recruits, and an extra opportunity for current members.  Anyone playing in BBF leagues for other clubs is welcome to take part.

The Rec League will operate in addition to the three adult teams that Herts already fields in BBF leagues, as well as its softball programme and youth baseball teams in four age groups.

Players can register now for the Herts Rec League on the Herts Baseball Club website, and the first Rec League games will take place at Grovehill Ballpark in Hemel Hempstead on 3 June.
